Reading Specialist Position - Grade(s): 5, 6, 7, 8
Qualifications:
- Must hold a current Multiple Subject, General Subject, Standard Elementary, or Reading Specialist credential
- Must have classroom experience in a variety of grade levels
- Must have training in current guided reading strategies and in a remediation program such as Orton-Gillingham or Wilson.
- Proven experience building professional relationships with colleagues ยท Strong communications and organizational skills
- Experience working within leadership roles (i.e. curriculum coordinator or lead teacher)
- Proven experience driving student achievement within your classroom/school
- Familiarity with Accelerated Reader and with diagnostic tools like running records is preferred.
Description: The Reading Specialist will meet individual students and small groups that require reading support; will be responsible for tracking and monitoring progress of these students. The Reading Specialist will meet with grade level teams frequently to discuss student progress and supervise a reading/language arts assessment program (running records and decoding assessments); will input and analyze reading assessment data. This position will report to the Principal. Additional responsibilities include:
- Developing strategies to motivate students to read in class as well as at home
- Assisting with intervention strategies for struggling readers in the classroom
- Establishing reading materials for students on grade level and above
- Purchasing new books for students of all levels; collaborating with teachers.
