Calling all Educators
What is KIPP Academy Lynn?
A cohesive team of outstanding educators makes an outstanding school. We are seeking teachers who have the heart, expertise, and devotion needed to create an exemplary school. KIPP Academy Lynn (KAL) is a college-preparatory middle school serving the culturally diverse urban population of Lynn, MA (10 miles North of Boston). KIPP Lynn opened its doors to 80 fifth-grade students in August 2004, and added one grade level each year until the 8th grade, 2007-2008. Teachers will teach a core subject in addition to having other school and classroom duties.
KIPP Academy Lynn prides itself on a professional work environment with a focus on growth and collaboration. Teachers are regularly observed and supported in an effort to help them improve their instruction. In addition, each teacher will receive a cell phone, laptop computer, and the resources necessary for high-quality instruction. Teachers will have a significant role in determining curricula and instructional methods and establishing a strict, college-preparatory school culture centered on the notion: No Shortcuts. No Excuses.
KAL's mission is to create an environment where the students of Lynn will develop the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits necessary to maximize their potential in high school, college, and the world beyond. Students, parents, and staff members will commit to excellence, doing whatever it takes to make sure every single student matriculates to and is successful in the nation's most rigorous high schools and colleges. KAL students attend school from 7:25 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on alternate Saturdays, and for three weeks during the summer. KIPP Academy Lynn is based on the highly-acclaimed KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) model; there are currently 47 KIPP schools nationwide. Please visit the national KIPP website: www.kipp.org.
What are your responsibilities as a teacher?
The primary responsibility of a KAL teacher is to instruct students in their subject-specific content area as prescribed by KIPP Academy Lynn's academic content standards. Each teacher is accountable for students' academic performance and for delivering effective, engaging lessons that reach all learners. KAL teachers also have responsibilities to the school outside of his/her primary teaching responsibility, including serving as a faculty advisor to students and as a liaison to parents. All teachers must reinforce the school's student management policies and procedures and make themselves available to help students, parents, and staff via cell phone at night and on weekends.
What qualifications are we seeking in our teachers?
We are seeking team players committed to KIPP Academy Lynn's mission and high expectations and dedicated to doing whatever it takes to ensure that all students are learning.
