Adult Education

Introduction

KIPP Massachusetts engages all members of the school community — students, teachers, administrators, and parents — to participate in creating an environment of “excellence” where ambitious, rigorous expectations are met and focused behavior and high achievement are the norm.

It is our goal to be visible, engaged, and inviting ambassadors through support of local programs and participation in the community. Sharing with and learning from students, parents, and members of the Lynn community makes the journey towards a brighter future more promising and attainable.

The adult education program started on November 5, 2007 as a free program that provides training and development to parents of KIPP students and to the greater Lynn community. The program offers 4 levels of ESOL English language acquisition classes, Computer Literacy classes in English and Spanish, Citizenship classes and assistance with the citizenship process, Health and Fitness classes, Spanish Literacy classes for native Spanish speakers who need to learn to read and write and Spanish conversational class for people who want to improve their Spanish.

We're back!

We are delighted to start the first semester of the 2011-2012 adult education classes; the previous semester was a tremendous experience and a collaborative effort in which we all grew as a community united around the goals of improving our lives and the lives of our children through education. We hope this semester is once again filled with that fundamental ingredient which makes things possible; our GANAS (Enthusiasm) to learn and improve our lives.

Classes for the 2011 Fall semester will run September 6th through December 15th – There will be no classes for the week of November 21-25 when KAL and KALC are on Thanksgiving Break.

Attendance/Asistencia:

The standard of regular attendance is the minimal requirement for Adult Education students in order to foster continuity in the instructional program. When the standard is not met, actions are taken which reflect a continuum of consequences for increasing absenteeism.

The Adult Education classes will follow the same calendar as the KIPP Academy Lynn school calendar, which includes cancellations due to inclement weather. Attendance directly affects the academic achievement of students. Students with excessive absences cannot profit from educational programs and activities offered at school. Students are encouraged, therefore, to attend classes regularly and promptly except in emergencies.

Three (3) unexcused absences during any marking period results in failure of classes for that marking period. For computer and citizenship classes the limit of unexcused absences is 2 and the total maximum is 4.

Contact us for attendance: Please call and leave a message at 781-346-6259!

It is the responsibility of the student to purchase the textbook and audio materials, KIPP Lynn will provide lesson plans and handouts of helpful content.

Child Care:

KIPP Academy Lynn will offer free childcare to parents participating in ESL, Computers or Citizenship classes.

Childcare is available for children from the ages of 4 to 13. Parents must escort children to the childcare classroom before going to their class and must pick them up afterward. No child can be left unattended or in the school hallways. We ask that children do not bring toys from home; activities will be provided as well as a light snack.
