What does KIPP stand for?

KIPP stands for "Knowledge is Power Program." KIPP is a national nonprofit organization that recruits and trains high-quality school leaders to found and operate middle schools in educationally underserved communities. As of 2005, there were 46 KIPP schools nationwide, serving 5,500 middle-school students. For more information about the KIPP program, check out www.kipp.org.

KIPP Academy Lynn Charter School (KAL) provides an environment where the students of Lynn will develop the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits necessary to maximize their potential in high school, college, and the world beyond.

KIPP Academy Lynn currently serves 350 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from Lynn. We are currently accepting applications for the 2010-2011 fifth-grade class. An open lottery will be held in the spring for fall admissions. Please contact Esther Vargas at (781) 598-1609 to enter your son or daughter into the lottery.

Joshua Zoia, the school principal, completed the year-long KIPP fellowship in 2003-2004 and was the primary author on KAL's application for a charter from the Massachusetts Board of Education. He was a teacher at the KIPP school in Bronx, New York for six years.
